Homework handed in by Thursday, May 31 at 5pm will be graded Friday morning, and I will hand back what I was able to grade Friday, June 1 at the end of lecture. I may not be able to grade everything, but will give priority to those who have been handing in homework every week (those already at 80+ points will have the lowest priority, however). Any homework I can't get done Friday will be done by Monday. This is your last chance to hand in homework that can be "redone".
HOWEVER, I will have many extra office hours week 10 (see above), and I may be around other times in the morning also (you can also schedule a time). If you're unsure about a problem, I can grade it while you are there and you will have a chance to fix any problems. The goal is for everyone to get 80 points! Remember that Thursday, June 7 at 5pm is a firm deadline; no homework will be graded after that time. But try to get everything in a day or two early; don't save it for the last minute! Good luck!
Homework is posted on the class webpage. It is due Thursday, June 7, by 5pm. However I strongly recommend you hand in problems every week. Try to get in the habit of doing at least 5 problems each week. It is a good idea to do even more near the beginning since you'll generally start with the easier problems and save the harder ones, which take longer, for the end. It's also a good idea to start working on some of the harder problems early on since they may take several weeks of on-and-off work before you solve them. I suggest working in groups both to help each other solve the problems and also to motivate each other to keep handing in problems each week. Of course make sure you understand each solution yourself, and write them up individually.
For the time being, I will be grading homework over the weekend. Any homework problems handed in by Thursday at 5pm (either on my desk or under my door) will be graded that weekend, and you should be able to pick them up Monday or Tuesday in office hours. I'll also hand back graded homework in section. Depending on volume I may not be able to grade everything over a weekend. I will grade homework roughly in the order it is turned in.
Each problem will be worth 2 points. The general rule is that you get 2 points if the problem is completely correct (or very close), 1 point if it is not completely correct but is at least half correct, and 0 points otherwise. I will grade some problems more carefully than others and will try to be consistent about grading each problem. You are allowed to redo problems that you get less than full points on, as long as your rewrite is handed in by June 7. Since you need not turn in a problem until you are satisfied with it, try to get the problems completely correct the first time so that you don't have to worry about redoing them.
Note that no solutions will be posted this quarter, but you may of course ask Prof. Elman and myself for help with solving any of the problems.
For rewrites, please hand back your original homework (along with any previous rewrites) with the rewritten problems. If you just missed some detail it is fine to just write in the missing detail on the original homework (or last rewrite), but make sure to emphasize it somehow (different color ink, box around it, or whatever), so that I can find it. For more substantial rewrites it's better to completely redo the problem on a separate sheet of paper and attach it to the packet. Make sure to clearly indicate which problems you are redoing. All rewrites are also due by June 7, but it's good to get them in soon while the problem is still fresh in your mind. Be sure your rewritten solution is really correct to avoid having to redo the problem once again. I'll grade rewrites when I have the time, but will give higher priority to grading new homework problems.
